Fix: CIPC Beneficial Ownership authorised shares showing 0 and greyed out

If you are having a problem when submitting CIPC Beneficial Ownership that the authorised securities block shows the number 0 and is greyed out, then the solution is below.

Why it happens

The beneficial ownership form uses the authorised shares recorded for your company at CIPC. If CIPC has no authorised shares on record for the company, the block shows 0 and you cannot continue.

The fix, step by step

  1. Go to the CIPC eServices website and log in.
  2. Go to Transact.
  3. Click the icon for Authorised Share Changes.
  4. Enter the company registration number.
  5. Type in your shares — typically 100 — and leave No-Par unticked.
  6. Pay the fee and submit.

It costs R 250 but it will instantly solve the issue and allow you to proceed on the BO.
